MUSC Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellowship

The Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Pathology Service of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston offers a one year program of non-ACGME accredited subspecialty training in gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology. During this time, fellows are given primary responsibility for examination and diagnosis of gastrointestinal and hepatic surgical pathology specimens. The gastrointestinal and hepatic pathology fellow must be board eligible and will function as a junior attending (credentialed as an instructor). Independent pathology signout component of the fellowship is contingent upon taking and passing the AP/CP or AP only examination given the by the American Board of Pathology and the assessment of the faculty. The Medical University of South Carolina Surgical Pathology Laboratory examines approximately 6,700 Gastrointestinal surgical pathology accessions and 1000 Liver surgical pathology accessions per year.
