The Rodger C. Haggitt Excellence in Mentorship award is awarded annually to one person who has excelled as a mentor to others. Nominations can be from one or more persons. To nominate your mentor for this award, one or more people submit a short essay (maximum 600 words) describing how the nominee was a positive mentor in their career(s). The essay should be signed by the person(s) who composed the essay and submitted to the chair of the nominating committee. Below are suggested points to include in an essay.
Introduction

position, and your relationship with them.
Mentorship Qualities
- Key Attributes: Describe the mentor’s key attributes, including
- How they served as a role model for you;
- How they influenced your career trajectory, choice of subspecialty, research focus, or
institution where you practice; - How they created opportunities for advancement in your academic career;
- How they advocated for you in their academic career;
- How they introduced you into meaningful professional networks.
- Examples: Provide specific examples of how the mentor has demonstrated these
qualities.
Impact and Achievements
- Impact on You: Explain how the mentor has positively influenced your personal and
professional development. - Success Stories: Share success stories or milestones that you achieved with the
mentor’s guidance. - Broader Impact: Describe the mentor’s impact on other mentees or the
community, if applicable.
Unique Contributions
- Innovative Methods: Highlight unique or innovative methods the mentor uses in
